Synastry That Knows Who They Are To You: Context-Aware Relationship Readings

Why generic synastry breaks#

A synastry chart overlays two birth charts and looks at how planets in one chart aspect planets in the other. The aspects are real — they don't change based on context. But the interpretation of an aspect has to change, because the relational frame changes.

Consider a tight Venus–Mars cross-aspect. Three readings, same aspect:

1. New romantic partner: "This is the magnetic charge you've been feeling. Early-stage chemistry is real. Watch for the difference between desire and avoidance once the initial draw stabilizes."

2. Your mother: "This shows up as a pull-and-push around attention. As a child, you likely felt simultaneously drawn to her warmth and pushed away by it. As an adult, this is the place where re-negotiating closeness asks for the most care."

3. Business co-founder: "Decision-making chemistry is high — when you align, you move fast. The friction comes when one of you wants to advance and the other wants to refine. This is the aspect to script around in early-stage product calls."

Without knowing who the other person is, an AI reading defaults to the most statistically common interpretation: romantic. That's why a synastry on your mother often reads like an inappropriate love letter, and a synastry on your business partner feels weirdly intimate. The same aspect, applied with the wrong register, generates content that is technically correct about the geometry and completely wrong about the relationship.

What's new#

Synthesis's synastry input now includes three things the older flow didn't:

1. Relationship type (required)#

Fifteen options that cover the most common relationships people actually want synastry for:

• Romantic: long-term partner, new partner (early dating), ex, undefined crush
• Family: mother, father, step/chosen parent, child, sibling
• Platonic: close friend, friend/acquaintance
• Professional: coworker, business partner
• Other: someone who has passed, other

When you pick one, the entire reading shifts register. A "mother" reading focuses on attachment patterns, intergenerational dynamics, and the work of adult re-negotiation. A "coworker" reading stays in workplace dynamics — decision-making fit, conflict patterns, communication style. There is no romantic or sexual framing for non-romantic relationships, regardless of which aspects show up in the chart.

2. What you want to understand (optional)#

Ten focus areas you can multi-select. The reading weights its sections accordingly:

• Long-term compatibility
• Communication patterns
• Romantic chemistry (only relevant for romantic relationships)
• Why we keep fighting
• Healing / closure
• Understanding their behavior
• Should I commit / leave
• Childhood / family patterns

A synastry where you check "Why we keep fighting" gets a much more detailed friction section. One where you check "Healing / closure" leans into the integration path rather than the dynamic itself. The chart data doesn't change — but the analytical lens does.

3. A 280-character note (optional)#

Free-text where you can add anything specific you want addressed: "We've been estranged for a year and I'm trying to understand why we keep missing each other." "I'm two months into something with him and want to know if the spark has substance." "She's my business partner of three years and the disagreements have started escalating."

The note is used to tone the reading. It is never quoted back to you, and no invented details are derived from it. If the chart doesn't support what you've named, the reading addresses what the chart does show.

What we did about AI hallucinations#

The other shift is technical. AI-generated readings — including ones from larger labs — are notorious for inventing chart claims. Aspects that don't exist. Orbs that are wrong by 30°. "Concrete examples" of scenes that never happened. T-squares between planets that aren't actually in a T-square configuration. Brand-name workplace fabrications ("Aj would propose a Slack thread...").

In the natal-reading pipeline, we built a 24-validator post-pass that runs after every reading is generated. It verifies:

• Aspect existence: is the aspect actually present in the chart at a reasonable orb?
• Geometric patterns: do the claimed Yod / T-square / Grand Trine planets actually form that geometry?
• Planet degrees: is the cited longitude correct?
• House cusps: does the cusp actually fall in the named sign?
• Stellium claims: is the planet list actually a stellium in the chart?
• Fabricated specifics: clock times, weekday inventions, brand names, specific dollar amounts — all stripped.

The synastry pipeline now runs the same validator, adapted for the two-chart case. It checks within-chart claims against each person's natal positions AND cross-chart aspect claims against the pre-computed cross-aspect map (so a real "Alex's Venus square Sam's Mars" doesn't get falsely softened because Venus and Mars aren't in a square within either person's individual chart).

Backfilled against existing readings, the validator caught a hallucinated "concrete example" sentence on the very first one — a fabricated scenario about a "joint investment plan" and "impulsive travel idea" that the chart did not support. It got stripped.

What this means in practice#

Three concrete things change in the reading you receive:

1. The register is right. A reading about your mother doesn't reach for chemistry language. A reading about your business partner doesn't write about your "deep soul connection." The vocabulary fits the relationship.

2. The focus is what you asked for. If you said you're trying to understand why you keep fighting, the friction section is denser and the integration path is more specific.

3. The chart claims are verified. If a section says "your Sun-Saturn trine at 2°08′ stabilizes the connection," that aspect actually exists and the orb is actually 2°08′. Claims that don't match the chart get corrected or softened before you ever see the reading.
