Venus Retrograde in Tropical, Sidereal & Draconic Astrology

Venus stations retrograde on October 3, 2026 at 07:16 UTC. Astronomically there is only one event: from Earth, Venus appears to slow, stop and run backward along the ecliptic for six weeks. Astrologically, though, that one moment has three different addresses. In the tropical zodiac it happens at 8°29′ Scorpio. In the Vedic sidereal zodiac it is 14°16′ Libra. In the Synthesis 13-sign sidereal model it is 45°08′ Virgo.

None of these is a mistake. Each zodiac measures the same sky from a different starting point, so the same loop picks up a different sign name in each. Venus Retrograde 2026 in Three Zodiacs at a Glance#

In the Americas the direct station falls on the evening of November 13. The shadow period, when Venus covers the same stretch of sky before and after the retrograde, runs from August 31 to December 15.

Two sidereal columns appear because "sidereal" names a family of zodiacs, not one. The Vedic tradition most often uses the Lahiri convention: twelve equal 30° signs, offset from the tropical zodiac by about 24°. Synthesis uses a constellation-inspired model: an offset of 31.38° + (year − 2000) / 72, about 31.75° in late 2026, applied to thirteen unequal bands that include Ophiuchus. In that model a degree is counted from the start of its band, and Virgo is the widest band at 49.7°, so a figure like 45°08′ Virgo is expected rather than a typo. What Stays the Same in Every Zodiac#

Before comparing signs, it helps to see how much of a retrograde does not depend on the zodiac at all. The dates are identical. The backward loop covers the same 15.6° of sky. The speed, the stations and the shadow period are the same events measured once.

The aspects are the same too. Within any one zodiac every planet is shifted by the same offset, so the angle between transiting Venus and your natal Sun, Moon or Mars does not change when you switch from tropical to sidereal. If Venus retrograde squares your natal Moon in one system, it squares it in the other.

In most house systems the house is also the same. Quadrant and equal houses are built from the Ascendant's degree, which shifts by the same offset as every planet, so Venus retrograde crosses the same house of your chart in both zodiacs. Whole-sign houses are the exception: there the sign boundary is the house boundary, so a change of sign can mean a change of house.

What changes, then, is the sign: the vocabulary the retrograde is read in. That is why two astrologers can describe the same Venus retrograde as a Scorpio story and a Virgo story without either getting the sky wrong.

Reading It in the Tropical Zodiac: Scorpio into Libra#

The tropical zodiac is anchored to the seasons, with 0° Aries at the March equinox. In the Synthesis framework it describes the most visible layer: how a pattern tends to show up in conscious behavior and choices.

In tropical terms this retrograde begins in Scorpio, the sign of depth, trust and what is shared or held back, and backs into Libra on October 25, the sign of agreements, reciprocity and terms. Traditional astrology places Venus in detriment in Scorpio and at home in Libra, so the loop moves from a sign where Venus's wish for harmony meets pressure into the sign it rules. Read at this layer, a Venus review often starts with questions of trust or intensity in relationships and money, then turns toward what feels fair and what each side has agreed to.

Reading It in the Sidereal Zodiac: Virgo, or Libra into Virgo#

The sidereal zodiac is anchored to the star field rather than the seasons. In the Synthesis framework it describes the patterns beneath conscious behavior: what tends to run underneath the tropical story.

In the Synthesis 13-sign model the whole retrograde, from station to station, stays inside Virgo. Virgo themes are discernment, practical care and refining what exists. If you carry the traditional dignity labels over to the constellation bands, Virgo is also the sign where Venus is said to be in fall, which describes pleasure and attraction filtered through analysis. At this layer the retrograde tends to read as an audit: sorting what is worth maintaining in relationships and values from what only looked appealing.

In the Vedic (Lahiri) zodiac Venus stations retrograde in Libra, one of its own signs, and backs into Virgo on November 5, stationing direct at 28°38′ Virgo. Vedic astrology treats Virgo as Venus's sign of debilitation, deepest at 27°, so the direct station lands close to that point. Many Vedic astrologers also consider a retrograde planet strong rather than weakened, because it has a motional strength called cheshta bala, so a Vedic reading of this loop is rarely as simple as "Venus in a bad sign".

Reading It in the Draconic Zodiac: It Depends on Your North Node#

The draconic zodiac is measured from your natal North Node, which becomes 0° Aries. Because everyone's North Node sits in a different place, there is no single draconic sign for Venus retrograde; it is personal. In the Synthesis framework the draconic layer describes the most persistent motivational pattern, the one that tends to stay constant beneath both the tropical and sidereal stories.

To place the retrograde, subtract your North Node's tropical longitude from Venus's. Venus stations retrograde at 218.48° and direct at 202.87°. Or use the table below with your North Node's sign and degree.

Every row follows the Aries row: the first sign applies when your North Node is before 8°29′ (retrograde station) or 22°52′ (direct station) of its sign. Take a hypothetical birth with the North Node at 15° Leo. Venus's stations land at 23°29′ and 7°52′ Gemini, so for that person the whole draconic loop is in Gemini, a sign of exchange, curiosity and what gets said. As with the other zodiacs, the draconic conversion shifts everything by one amount, so aspects and houses stay where they were; only the sign changes.

Putting the Three Together#

Reading one retrograde through three zodiacs is not about finding the one true sign. The three layers work as different depths, each sufficient for what it describes, and useful side by side.

A practical order: start with what every zodiac shares. Find the house the loop crosses and any natal planets it touches, since those are identical in all three systems and usually carry the most concrete information. Then read the tropical sign as how the review tends to surface in behavior, the sidereal sign as the pattern running underneath, and the draconic sign as the motivation that persists through both.

For the hypothetical 15° Leo node above, that gives Scorpio into Libra at the behavioral layer (trust, then terms), Virgo beneath it (discernment), and Gemini at the motivational layer (exchange). A reading built on those would look at how agreements get examined and spoken, not at any single sign. Where two or three layers repeat a theme, that theme is likely strong and persistent. Where they differ, they describe different depths of the same period rather than competing claims.

The Other Retrogrades Through Spring 2027, Zodiac by Zodiac#

The outer planets show the widest gap between systems this year. Saturn and Neptune are both retrograding in the early degrees of tropical Aries, which many tropical astrologers read as the start of a new cycle; sidereally, in both conventions, the two are still in Pisces. Uranus is in tropical Gemini but sidereal Taurus, and Pluto is in tropical Aquarius but sidereal Capricorn. The tropical sign describes the new chapter as it shows up in behavior; the sidereal sign suggests the older pattern still running underneath.

The overlap between Venus and Mercury retrograde differs by zodiac too. The two are retrograde together from October 24 to November 13 in every system, but they share a sign for only about a day in tropical Scorpio, about twelve days in Vedic Libra, and about ten days in Synthesis Virgo, from November 3.
