WHAT THIS READING CAN AND CANNOT TELL YOU
Relocation astrology takes the chart you were born with in Ulm and rotates it to a new horizon. Nothing in the chart itself moves. Your Sun stays at 23° Pisces, Mercury and Saturn stay welded together in early Aries, your Moon stays at 14° Sagittarius. What changes is the frame: the Ascendant and Midheaven are calculated from the local horizon and meridian, so in each new place a different set of planets sits near the angles and planets fall into different houses. In this model a place does not change who you are. It changes which parts of you get turned up.
That is a narrower claim than it sounds, and the limits matter. This reading cannot tell you where you would be happy, whether a move would work, or what would happen once you arrived. It describes emphasis: which drives a place tends to bring forward, and what living there would tend to ask of you. It knows nothing about rent, language, the people you would leave or join, or the actual reason these three cities are on your list. Those things weigh more than anything below. Treat this as one perspective on the pattern, held next to the practical facts rather than above them.
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND
The one angular planet here is the one you were born with. Zurich puts Uranus on the IC — the bottom of the chart, home, roots, private life — at an orb of 6.23°. In Ulm it sits on the same angle at 7.79°. So Zurich does not introduce a new signature; it tightens the one that already defines the private end of your chart by about a degree and a half.
What that Uranus actually is: 1°17′ Virgo, retrograde, in your natal 3rd house of communication, the local environment and daily mental traffic. Its tightest natal contacts are an opposition to Jupiter at 27° Aquarius in the 9th (orb 3.81°) and a sesquiquadrate to Venus at 17° Aries in the 11th (orb 0.68°). Read together: the root of your life carries a restless, analytic, precision-minded charge that does not want to settle into a fixed shape, and it pulls against two things — the wide, foreign-facing Jupiter that wants the big idea and the far horizon, and the Venus that wants attachments to hold. With Uranus on the IC, that pull tends to show up at home. The private life is where the unconventional thinking happens, and it is also where continuity is hardest to keep. Jupiter, for what it is worth, sits about 10° from the relocated Midheaven at 7°31′ Pisces — outside the 8° window the data uses for angularity, but the Jupiter MC line runs only 698 km to the west, so the Jupiter–Uranus opposition here lies roughly along the vertical axis of the chart: expansive, foreign-minded thought toward the top, unsettled roots at the bottom.
The relocated Ascendant is 6°32′ Cancer — the same rising sign you were born with, so what you lead with in Zurich does not change in kind, and the Moon at 14° Sagittarius in the 6th stays the chart ruler. No planet changes house. The 10th still holds the Sun in Pisces alongside the Mercury–Saturn conjunction in early Aries (orb 1.06°), which is the disciplined, first-principles engine your public role is built on; the 6th still holds the Moon, which means daily work stays where your emotional life lives; the 11th still holds Venus, Neptune, Chiron and Pluto, so community and networks remain where value and intensity concentrate. At the scale of angles and houses, Zurich is your birth chart with the volume nudged up at the root.
The fine scale is where Zurich becomes specific, and this deserves attention because it is the only one of the three places that anything at this scale reaches.
Local space first. Zurich lies 157.6 km southwest of Ulm, bearing 224.19°, and that bearing runs within 5.33° of your Mars local space line — a miss of 14.7 km at this range. Mars was above the horizon when you were born. Your Mars is 26°54′ Capricorn in the natal 8th house of intimacy, shared resources and deep change, trine Pluto at 24° Taurus (orb 2.18°) and semisextile Jupiter (orb 0.57°). That is a patient, strategic, long-game drive — one that works through what is held jointly with others, that does not burn out quickly because the Pluto trine gives it endurance, and that takes stakes seriously. Travelling toward Zurich from where you were born is travelling along this planet's ray. It can also bring forward friction — Mars near the surface tends to mean more argument, more sense that something is at stake, less patience with people who move slowly. Then the parans. Two of them sit almost on top of each other, on latitude 47.97°, about 66 km north of Zurich — 0.6° of latitude, inside the range where the data treats them as active, though exact on a line that runs 66 km to the north rather than through the city itself.
Mercury MC × Mars DSC (66.4 km north). Mercury culminating while Mars sets. This is the Mercury that is conjunct Saturn in the 10th and sextile the True Node at 0.39° — the structured, deliberate thinking your reputation rests on — arriving in the same moment as the Mars drive appearing across the relationship axis, in the position of other people. The tendency: your ideas get contested. You are sharpened by opposition, and the argument matters. For someone with Mercury–Saturn in Aries, being pushed on your reasoning can be exactly what makes it rigorous, and it can also be exhausting.
Moon ASC × Venus IC (66.5 km north). The chart ruler rising while Venus is at the root. Your Moon in Sagittarius and Venus in Aries are trine natally (orb 2.58°) — an easy, fire-to-fire pair. The tendency here: the emotional way you show up and what you privately value tend to line up. The daily texture and the affections are on speaking terms. This is the gentler of the two parans and it sits right beside the sharper one.
Two more lie outside orb: Mars ASC × Pluto IC at 115.8 km north, and Mars DSC × Saturn MC at 130.7 km south. Those are approaching, not active — background. But notice the pattern across all of it: Mars is in the local space line and in three of the four nearest parans. At the fine scale, Zurich is a Mars place for this chart.
The remaining astrocartography lines are far: Uranus IC 422 km west (consistent with the angular Uranus), Jupiter MC 698 km west, everything else past 1,100 km. Background.
What Zurich would ask of you: to be willing to argue and to work at things that resist; to accept a home life that stays a little unsettled and to make that unsettledness productive rather than corrosive; and to keep the Mars drive pointed at problems rather than at the people around you.
BERLIN, GERMANY
No planet falls within 8° of an angle in Berlin. That is the first thing to know, and the second is what it means for the angle you were born with: the relocated Midheaven is 12°43′ Pisces, which puts the IC at 12°43′ Virgo, more than 11° from your Uranus at 1°17′ Virgo. The one angular signature of your birth chart drops out of orb here. Uranus stays in the 3rd house — communication, the local environment — but it is no longer sitting on the root of the chart. In this model, the private life tends to be less of a live wire in Berlin than it is in Ulm or Zurich. Home gets quieter. Whether that reads as relief or as something missing depends on how much you rely on that restlessness.
The Ascendant is 15°32′ Cancer, the same rising sign as birth, so the chart ruler is still the Moon at 14° Sagittarius in the 6th. What you lead with stays the same in kind. Where Berlin differs from Zurich is in two house shifts, and both of them move a planet into the domains where other people are.
Venus moves from the 11th to the 10th — from community and networks into career, public role and reputation. Your Venus is 16°58′ Aries: direct, initiating, more interested in pursuing than in being pursued, trine the Moon (orb 2.58°) and in a tight sesquiquadrate to Uranus (orb 0.68°). In the 10th it joins the Sun, Mercury and Saturn, which makes four planets in the public house. The tendency: what you value and whom you are associated with become part of the public face. Taste, affection and alliance stop being a side matter and start being something you are known for. Mars moves from the 8th to the 7th — from shared resources and intimacy into partnership, marriage and open one-to-one relationships. This is the same Capricorn Mars, trine Pluto, that Zurich puts on the local space line — but where Zurich brings it forward as a direction of travel, Berlin relocates it into a life domain. The drive and the contention move into the relationship itself. The tendency: partnerships with an edge; collaboration that is also competition; the negotiation happening face to face rather than over the shared pool. Mars in Capricorn is patient and strategic, and the Pluto trine gives it staying power, so the picture is not volatility so much as persistent, structured pressure on and from the person across the table. The demanding side is obvious: more friction in close relationships, more need to argue things out, and a tendency to draw partners who push. The productive side is equally real — a partner you can actually contend with. The Mars DSC line runs 688 km to the northeast of Berlin, which is background rather than active, but it points the same way as the house shift.
The nearest lines are all far. Sun MC 674 km east, Mars DSC 688 km northeast, Uranus IC 708 km west, Jupiter MC 955 km west. None of them is close enough to lean on.
At the fine scale, Berlin is empty. It lies 516.9 km northeast of Ulm at bearing 26.4°, and no local space line runs toward it within 6°. No paran latitude sits within 1.5°. This is a real finding, not a gap in the data: nothing at this scale reaches Berlin. What Berlin is for you, in this framework, is the standing chart — Cancer rising, the crowded 10th, the Moon in the 6th — with two planets moved into the relational and public houses and the home angle turned down. It is not a place any specific line points to.
What Berlin would ask of you: to take partnership seriously as a site of effort rather than rest; to be publicly identified with what and whom you value, and to be comfortable with that; and to find the restlessness somewhere other than home, since the angle that used to carry it has gone quiet.
PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
This is a different chart. The relocated Ascendant is 6°21′ Pisces, not Cancer. The Midheaven is 17°08′ Sagittarius. Ten planets change house. Two planets are angular, one of them at the tightest orb in any of the three cities. Everything that follows is about the chart being reorganized, not nudged.
Start with the Moon, because it is the loudest thing here: 14°23′ Sagittarius on the Midheaven at an orb of 2.74°. This is your natal chart ruler — the planet that governs the Cancer Ascendant you were born with — moving from the 6th house of daily work and routine to the 9th house of travel, higher study, meaning and the foreign, and landing on the most public point in the chart. Its natal contacts are a trine to Venus (orb 2.58°) and a very tight biquintile to Neptune (orb 0.52°). In this framework a Sagittarius Moon on the Midheaven tends to make the emotional life public: what you are known for carries feeling, restlessness and the appetite for the wide view, rather than the structured discipline of Mercury–Saturn that the 10th house rests on in Ulm. And because it sits in the 9th, the foreign itself becomes the public role. You would be, quite literally, the foreigner, and this placement tends to make that a visible identity rather than a private circumstance. The demanding side: a Moon on the MC tends to mean the emotional life is on display. Reputation responds to how you feel, and there is less room to keep the two apart. The Moon MC line runs 292 km to the west, which confirms how close this is.
Second angular planet: Uranus on the Descendant at 5.07°. In Ulm Uranus is on the IC — private roots. In Princeton it swings to the opposite end of the chart's horizontal axis, the Descendant: partnership and who you draw toward you. It also moves from the 3rd house to the 6th — work, health, daily routine. This is the same Virgo Uranus, retrograde, opposition Jupiter, sesquiquadrate Venus — but its disruption relocates from home to relationships and daily work. The tendency: you tend to draw unusual, independent, analytically minded people; partnerships resist convention and resist being pinned down; the daily routine wants irregularity and tends to get it. The Uranus DSC line is 179 km to the west, the closest astrocartography line in any of the three cities.
Now look at what the Uranus opposition does to the horizon. Jupiter at 27°29′ Aquarius sits in the relocated 12th house — solitude, the unconscious, retreat — about 9° behind the Ascendant. That is just outside the 8° window the data uses, so Jupiter is not angular by that measure, but the Jupiter ASC line runs 376 km to the west and the geometry is plain: the Jupiter–Uranus opposition (orb 3.81°) lies roughly along the self–other axis here. Big, foreign-minded, expansive thought held privately at the self end, in the house of retreat; disruptive, precise, unconventional Uranus at the other end, in the house of partners. The tension between the idea you carry alone and the people who unsettle it tends to be the live axis of this chart.
Then the house shifts, and the biggest one is a migration. The Sun at 23°30′ Pisces, Mercury at 3°07′ Aries, Saturn at 4°11′ Aries and Venus at 16°58′ Aries all move into the 1st house — self, body, first impressions. In Ulm the Sun, Mercury and Saturn are in the 10th; the public role is where the core identity and the disciplined mind are stationed. In Princeton they come down to the 1st. The Mercury–Saturn conjunction, the structured, first-principles thinking, stops being a public function and becomes personal identity — how you carry yourself rather than what you produce. The Sun in Pisces in the 1st, under a Pisces Ascendant, tends to mean you lead with the Pisces qualities — receptive, permeable, imaginative, less armored — rather than the Cancer approach you were born leading with. The Sun's natal sextile to Pluto (orb 1.23°) now links a 1st house Sun to a 3rd house Pluto: the core self connected to concentrated depth through communication and the immediate environment. The Sun's semisquare to Neptune (orb 0.63°) links it to a Neptune that has moved into the 2nd house of money, resources and self-worth — a Neptune that is conjunct Chiron natally (orb 2.33°). Nothing in that is advice; it is a tendency for the question of what you are worth and what you have to carry a hazy, idealizing, slightly unresolved quality here.
With Pisces rising, the chart ruler changes as well: Jupiter in the traditional scheme, Neptune in the modern one. Either way the ruler moves into a quiet house — Jupiter to the 12th, Neptune to the 2nd — and off the angles. The Moon, which ran the birth chart, is still the loudest planet but no longer the ruler.
Two more shifts worth naming. Mars moves from the 8th to the 11th — the Capricorn drive, trine Pluto, goes into community, networks and collective projects rather than shared resources. Ambition tends to become something done with and through groups. And Jupiter moves from the 9th to the 12th, which means the expansive, meaning-making side of you tends to retreat into solitude here rather than facing outward through travel and study — the outward-facing work is handed to the Moon on the MC instead.
At the fine scale, nothing reaches Princeton. It lies 6,439 km northwest of Ulm at bearing 296.41°; no local space line runs toward it within 6°, and no paran latitude lies within 1.5°. At this distance the large-scale tools do all the work, and they have plenty to do.
What Princeton would ask of you: to be seen as yourself rather than through your work; to make being a foreigner a public identity; to tolerate having your emotional weather visible; to let partnerships be unconventional and routines irregular; and to notice that the discipline you were born using as a public instrument would be asked to become a personal one.
THREE PLACES SIDE BY SIDE
This is not a ranking. It is three different emphases laid next to each other.
Zurich foregrounds the private and the combative. Uranus tightened on the IC keeps home restless and unconventional; the Mars local space line and the Mercury × Mars paran bring effort, contention and contested thinking close to the surface; the Moon × Venus paran keeps the daily texture and the affections in step. The public role is unchanged. The drives Zurich turns up are the ones that push: Mars in Capricorn, Uranus at the root, Mercury–Saturn being argued with.
Berlin foregrounds the relational and the public. Mars moves into partnership, Venus into reputation, and the home angle goes quiet. The drives Berlin turns up are the ones that meet other people head-on — Mars in the 7th, Venus in the 10th — and the drive it turns down is the private restlessness. At the fine scale nothing points at it.
Princeton foregrounds identity and visibility. Four planets, including the Sun and the Mercury–Saturn conjunction, move into the 1st; the Moon takes the Midheaven; Uranus takes the Descendant. The drives Princeton turns up are the self, the emotional life as a public fact, and unconventional partnership — and it changes the front you lead with from Cancer to Pisces.
The bearings from Ulm tell the same story from a different side. Zurich is 157.6 km at 224°, southwest, along the Mars ray. Berlin is 516.9 km at 26°, northeast, along nothing. Princeton is 6,439 km at 296°, northwest, along nothing. Zurich and Berlin are close to opposite directions out of your birthplace — 162° apart in bearing — which is why one of them lands on a planetary line and the other does not.
WHERE THE CHART ACTUALLY DRAWS A LINE, AND WHERE IT DOES NOT
Zurich and Berlin are near-copies at the scale of angles and houses. Both have Cancer rising; the Ascendants are 9° apart and the Midheavens 5° apart; both keep the Sun, Mercury and Saturn in the 10th and the Moon in the 6th. The nearest astrocartography line to either of them is over 400 km away. If you asked only the relocated chart, it would say they are the same place.
What actually separates them is modest and specific. Uranus is inside orb of the IC in Zurich and outside it in Berlin. Venus and Mars change houses in Berlin and stay put in Zurich. The Mars local space line and two parans reach Zurich; nothing at that scale reaches Berlin. Those are the facts the comparison rests on, and they are real — but they are fine-grained, and the parans in particular are exact on a latitude 66 km north of Zurich rather than on the city. Treat them as leanings, not signatures.
Princeton is not a subtle case. A different rising sign, ten planets changing house, the Moon within 3° of the Midheaven and Uranus within 5° of the Descendant — the chart genuinely distinguishes it from the other two, and the difference is large enough that it does not need the fine-scale tools at all. Where the geometry between Zurich and Berlin is thin, the geometry between either of them and Princeton is thick.
One more thing to be straight about. The Zurich Uranus is a sharpening of what is already true in Ulm, not a new fact — 6.23° instead of 7.79°. If you know what home feels like now, you already know most of what Zurich amplifies.
THE PART THE CHART CANNOT SEE
Everything above is one model reading one set of coordinates. It knows the angle of the horizon at each place and nothing else. It does not know what these three cities cost, what language you would be thinking in, who is already there and who you would be leaving, what work is waiting, or the actual reason each of them is on the list. Those are not secondary considerations to be weighed after the chart. They are the primary ones, and they should carry more weight than any orb in this reading.
Use the chart for what it can do: it can tell you which of your own drives a place tends to turn up, so you can go in knowing what you are likely to be asked for — contention in Zurich, partnership in Berlin, visibility in Princeton. It cannot tell you which of those you want. That part is yours, and it always was.
