Why “Ask AI About My Chart” Doesn’t Work

If you paste your birth date into ChatGPT and ask for a birth chart reading, you’ll get something that sounds convincing. The problem: the AI doesn’t know where the planets actually were. It has no ephemeris. It can’t compute house cusps. It doesn’t know your Ascendant, because that requires your exact birth time, geographic coordinates, and a precise astronomical calculation.

So it guesses. It fills in placements that sound plausible. It generates aspects that don’t exist. It tells you your Moon is in Scorpio when it’s actually in Libra. The reading feels real because LLMs are good at sounding confident, but the astronomical foundation is wrong — or absent entirely.

This matters because astrology’s value — whatever you believe that value is — depends on precision. A Moon in Scorpio and a Moon in Libra describe fundamentally different emotional patterns. An aspect with a 1° orb is a dominant force in the chart. An aspect with a 9° orb barely registers. If the data is wrong, the interpretation is fiction.

Most professional readings cover one system. The astrologer looks at your Tropical chart, identifies a few standout placements — a stellium, a tight square, your Sun-Moon dynamic — and builds a narrative around those highlights. This is skilled work. But it’s selective by necessity. No human can hold 300+ data points across five systems in working memory and trace every connection.
